WHERE ARE YOUR THOUGHTS TAKING YOU?
Where are your thoughts taking you these days? I’ll go first (wink). My thoughts are all over the place. Much like the weather, one moment my thoughts are full of sunshine and the next thing I know, the clouds are surfacing and throwing shade on my sunshine.
Throwing Shade
Did you know we have the ability to throw shade on ourselves? It’s not always the passive-aggressive women who throw the shade. The Urban Dictionary definition of throwing shade is “to make a rude remark or comment towards another person with no one else (or a few) catching the insult except who it was directed towards.”
Be Encouraged
When my thoughts start to wander down the road of darkness, it’s easy to throw shade on myself certainly when I’m in a challenging situation or just having a bad day. And, we all have bad days. We all face trials and trouble. Life is not easy. In fact, it can be downright difficult, but we are encouraged to move forward. 1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us that our temptations are no different from any others so be encouraged. Our God is faithful, and He will not allow our desires to be more than we can bear.
Our Thoughts Are a Reflection of Our Beliefs
Joyce Meyer urged us never to forget that our mind plays an important role in our victory and we are to keep our minds, our thinking, in line with God’s word (Battlefield of the Mind).
Since our thoughts are often a reflection of our beliefs about who we are it’s important to understand what God’s word says about us. I believe God’s word. I believe what God’s word says about me. Believing in His word transforms our mind. When we focus on God’s word, and we truly believe, we will overcome our challenges and adversities.
Why should we meditate on His word?
When we know the word, our thoughts will settle on His word, and the truth will outshine the shade any day. Click To TweetThe Victory is Ours
When I’m having one of those days, and I feel the shade begin to block the sunshine, I read Deuteronomy 28:1-14. The verses found in Deuteronomy lead me to victory. My favorite translation is the Modern English Version. So, the next time your thoughts begin to throw shade, I encourage you to read these verses and reflect on the meaning of the words.
Much like David in Psalms 143 when he wrote, “I am ready to give up. I am losing courage. But, I remember what happened, and I think about all you have done.” When we place our thoughts on God and meditate on His word, the victory is ours.
Deuteronomy 28: 1-14 (MEV)
Now it will be, if you will diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I am commanding you today, then the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings will come on you and overtake you if you listen to the voice of the Lord your God.
You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the field.
Your offspring will be blessed, and the produce of your ground, and the offspring of your livestock, the increase of your herd and the flocks of your sheep.
Your basket and your kneading bowl will be blessed.
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
The Lord will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
The Lord will command the blessing on you in your barns and in all that you set your hand to do, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He swore to you, if you will keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. All people of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you. The Lord will make you overflow in prosperity, in the offspring of your body, in the offspring of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you.
The Lord will open up to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. The Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you will only be above and you will not be beneath, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am commanding you today, to observe and to do them. Also, you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I am commanding you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
The victory is ours!

[…] There are many things I could do or say to young women to assure them that they are amazing, loveable, and have great value, but I’m not sure they would listen because it’s not up to me. It’s that small quiet voice in their mind speaking to them, and that voice is the voice that will direct their steps. I spoke in-depth about our thoughts in Where Are Your Thoughts Taking You? […]
