What Are Your Choices Reflecting?
What do your choices reflect? I’ve been working on my self-discipline lately, and my goal is to establish healthier habits for exercise and nutrition. The first step I made toward my goals started with bypassing the Publix bakery while grocery shopping. I’m not sure if you have a Publix Super Market in your area, but if not, you’re missing out on some delightful treats. The allure of the colorful confetti cakes is just too much to resist on many days. And how about the slices of the delicious key lime cheesecake! I tell myself since it’s key lime, it’s not so bad. Sound familiar?
Do Everything for the Glory of God
We may tell ourselves that having some tasty treats isn’t so bad, but we need to remember that anything not in moderation is not healthy for us whether it’s food, beverages, television or social media.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Living Bible, “Well, I’ll tell you why. It is because you must do everything for the glory of God, even your eating and drinking.”
Confetti Cake & Books
Is there anything in your life that is not in moderation? Click To TweetConfetti cake is not my only weakness. I love books. Reading brings me great enjoyment then again reading too much can become a distraction. Sounds odd to confess that reading can be an interference, but I can get lost in a book and lose track of time, plus reading keeps me stationary. I don’t do books on tape, so I am not active when reading. I am sitting on my comfy down filled love seat with aRLo snoozing in my lap. Not a lot of activity when I’m reading a book for hours in the day.
Too Much of a Good Thing
Another step I’ve taken towards my goals is to disconnect from social media at certain times throughout the day and evening. I love IG stories and feeds. The people I follow are motivating, inspiring, and encouraging. But, again, too much of a good thing is no longer a good thing. When I’m scrolling through the feed, I may be inspired, but I am no longer a good steward of my time since I’m distracted from what I should be doing. I need to be more disciplined.
Discipline = Results
My husband stepped off the Fitbit scale the other day, and I was amazed. I won’t announce his body fat but it was really low. After reading his percentage, there was no way I was jumping on the scale in front of him. Confetti cake or not, my percentage was nowhere near his stats. Why? Because he is disciplined. Every morning Scott wakes up at 5:45 am and heads to the work out area he created for us. The set up includes a rebounder, Pilates machine, backboard, and hand weights. There’s also a mirror, tv, and stereo. It’s a great space for a focused workout. His results show his dedication and commitment to his health.
Lack of Discipline = No Results
I work out a few times a week, and I walk. The problem is my lack of discipline. My workout routine and walks are not scheduled. I do not make a commitment to exercise. If something comes up, my exercise is one of the first items I scratch off my planner. I have very good reasons for canceling my workout sessions, but the motive is the same, I just don’t want to put in the effort on some days and there lies the problem.
Two are Better Than One
I need accountability. So, I am sharing my goals in hopes of becoming more accountable. If you are in need of accountability in an area, let me know. I’d be happy to partner with you for accountability with your goals. Why go it alone? As shared in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 The Message, “It’s better to have a partner than go it alone. Share the work, share the wealth. And if one falls down, the other helps, But if there’s no one to help, it’s tough!”
